Some trainers arrive on the scene happy as a clam (though virtually none in 2019). Others take a few weeks to mature. Some take months. The Zumo though – it decided to take its time like an Italian wine . But nearly a year after I first wrote about it, it’s finally unlocked the ‘Happy Clam’ achievement level. Of course, I’ll explain that history more later. Ultimately, that’s all historical water under the trainer bridge. What you’ve got today is a $699 (599EUR, 450GBP…but down to 399GBP in some places, $799AUD) direct drive trainer that’s a pretty darn good value for the money. It’s the least expensive direct drive trainer on the market, and it happily works with any app you can throw at it on both ANT+ & Bluetooth Smart. Zwift, TrainerRoad, Rouvy, Sufferfest, Kinomap, you name it – it’s happy to Tinder with it. It’s a great option to consider if you want to get into the smart trainer game, but you aren’t entirely sure you want to spend the money for a higher-end unit. It doesn’t have the highest specs for things like gradient simulation or road-feel, but it’s also not $1,200. Finally, this test unit is a media loaner. In fact, two different units. One from last year that t...

Coronavirus Spreads: Whisky And Spirits Industry To Lose £200 Million In 2020

So far, 2020 has not seen the most optimistic of starts, as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads across the globe. While the virus began spreading in Wuhan, China, it is now in most major cities and many countries around the world. Small businesses and global enterprises are all being affected by the virus as fear spreads across Asia, primarily in countries in close proximity to China, and Western cities that attract many Chinese tourists. With Diageo announcing a potential £200 million loss, it’s clear that whisky industry as a whole is taking blows, seen mostly in Asian countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. Here are some updates on how the Coronavirus is affecting the whisky industry.

Best home decor to buy at Costco, according to interior designers

Costco may not be the first place that comes to mind when it comes to interior-design elements, but the nationwide retailer has more to offer your space than just bulk food and drinks. The membership-only warehouse club sells a variety of home-decor products on its website like mirrors, serving platters, and rugs to refresh your space. With so many pieces to choose from, we spoke to Christina Marie Kairis, principal designer and owner of Tina Marie Interior Design in Lake Mary, Florida, to find out what an interior designer would buy from the retailer right now.  Disclaimer: At the time of publication, these products were in stock. Prices and availability are subject to change. “I love the juxtaposition of the square versus round because it creates more interest in the piece rather than being just a typical rectangular mirror we see so much,”  Kairis told INSIDER. “A mirror like this will reflect the natural light that summer brings in and brighten up your indoor space when you can’t be outside.” Warm weather and a nice cool breeze are all you need to enjoy dining outdoors this summer — but a large table that can comfortably seat up to six people d...

The best thermos flasks for camping, hiking and festivals The Telegraph Search Icon Save Facebook icon Twitter icon Instagram icon LinkedIn icon Facebook icon Twitter icon Instagram icon LinkedIn icon

An insulated Thermos flask is a purchase that keeps paying back all year round. The best vacuum flasks perform a dual role: they keep hot liquid like coffee warm, and they keep cold drinks like iced water cool, for those boiling car journeys in the height of summer. Once you have one in your life, you’ll find it accompanies you to the office, to festivals, on camping trips, and even on holidays abroad. How do Thermos flasks work? In short, they use a double walled construction, with the air removed from between these walls, forming a vacuum. Heat struggles to pass through the vacuum, meaning liquid stays at a roughly constant temperature. To help you choose which one to invest in, I tried and tested a selection of flasks that promise to keep your beverages colder and hotter for longer, measuring how much heat was retained or how cool they kept respectively over a period of 12 hours. To do this, I used a Thermopen (a professional thermometer considered the best by top chefs, available for £65 at John Lewis) to gauge the temperature of the contents at the beginning and end of 12-hours. Each flask was subjected to two 12 hours tests: for the first, I poured water from a recen...

Cutting’s Current State: Laser cutting on the bleeding edge The FABRICATOR STAMPING Journal The Welder The Tube and Pipe Journal The FABRICATOR en Español The Additive Report The FABRICATOR The Welder The Tube and Pipe Journal STAMPING Journal The Additive Report The FABRICATOR en Español

Tennessee metal fabricator Cupples’ J&J Company takes an unusual approach to work flow with its 19 laser cutting machines. Considering the operation has near-perfect on-time delivery, the approach is working. Getty Images In this 50th year of The FABRICATOR, we’re diving deep and running a series called Cutting’s Current State. This is Part II of the series. Check out Part I, which takes a look at the state of the laser/punch combo. When rookies begin in the laser cutting department at Cupples’ J&J Company Inc., they usually find themselves offloading cut parts out of a nest, right after it comes off the laser. It’s a common starting point for many who begin their working lives at a typical metal fabrication job shop, especially the small ones—maybe a dozen employees, less than $5 million in annual revenue—without the automated blanking systems more common in larger operations. Thing is, Cupples’ J&J isn’t small. In fact, by custom fabrication standards it’s one of the largest operations in the country, with 340 employees and annual revenue surpassing $63 million. Between a plant in Jackson and another in Dyersburg, Tenn., it has 19 laser cutting machines, incl...

9 injured in crash involving 2 fire trucks, pickup truck in N.H.

A crash involving two fire trucks and a pickup truck sent multiple people to the hospital Friday in Manchester, N.H. Both Manchester Fire Department fire engines were on their way to respond to a blaze on Arlington Street when they slammed into each other at the intersection of Bridge and Maple streets in Manchester around 12:45 p.m., Manchester Police Public Information Officer Heather Hamel said. One fire truck was traveling northbound on Maple Street and the other was heading eastbound on Bridge Street at the time of the incident, Hamel said. A black pickup truck that was also driving toward the intersection pulled over to the side of the road to let them through, and the two engines collided. Images of the scene shared by police on Facebook showed a black pickup truck crushed against the front of one of the fire engines. Another fire truck appeared to have hit the side of the first. A traffic light pole was also knocked over. Eight fire personnel and the male driver of the pickup truck, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, were taken to Catholic Medical Center or Elliot Hospital, Hamel said. All fire personnel were treated for minor to moderate injuries and released fr...
